• I read this article by Michelle Meyers.
The article reviews one of the coolest apps on texting using an iPod Touch called Textfree, this also works with an iPad. Textfree assigns a real phone number, and lets one send and receive texts for free.

In other words, “No one knows you don’t have a phone.”

• This summer I haven’t posted as I was out riding across the TransAmerica, TransAm, #acatransam! The trail took me from Yorktown, VA to Portland, OR. See the trip, with notes and pix on Google Maps or TrackMyTour.

I am decompressing at present and haven’t even cleaned or performed maintenance on my Rivendell Atlantis: Home 4,143 miles, 0 flats, original tires! It was a sweet bike to take on the road and saved me!

WHEN she founded the digital ad agency Exopolis nine years ago, Kat Egan wasn’t worried about finding good talent. Although the Internet was young, she figured trained technologists would soon be pelting her with résumés.

Students in the Boulder Digital Works program at the University of Colorado have the use of a two-story studio space for multimedia presentations and performances.

Nearly a decade later, she’s still waiting.

“It’s shocking: even now, in 2010, it’s very challenging to find great talent,” Ms. Egan said. You can find people, she said, but “you know that they’re going to need a lot of mentoring and a lot of hand-holding, and it’s an enormous investment.”

“Digital has been growing exponentially for 15 years now,” Ms. Egan said. “Where’s the education that supports that?”

• You have got to like something at JibJab. Based on the same Flash that we use in class, these folks put together goofy animated adventures. Not all are appropriate for all ages. Some you can customize with photos of your friend’s faces.

This time, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the release of The Empire Strikes Back, the site has gotten the rights to re-create the original Star Wars Trilogy.

Except instead you’ll be watching your friends take on the Empire.

There are three clips available — one for each film in the original trilogy. The videos take footage from the original films, condense each into a whirlwind two minutes of wisecracks, and insert your friends’ faces wherever possible. The end result is hilarious.

JibJab is going to try to make money off these, you can create your own clip for The Empire Strikes Back for free. But you have to pay to make make clips based on A New Hope or Return of the Jedi.

There are already a number floating around the web and you can find three on TechCrunch.
